Who wouldn' want a swimming pool in the backyard? You can get a swim before breakfast, entertain family and friends, have pool side parties and barbecues.

But. The price for an inground pool can be a bit steep. Without the proper research and some serious comparative shopping, your inground pool could en up costing you thousands of dollars more than necessary.

Not only do pool prices vary depending on the type and size of your pool, but prices can also vary extensively in between pool companies. Inground pools are usually more expensive than their above ground pool counterpart. An above ground pool is of course much easier and a lot less expensive to install. Yet, an inground pool is more of a permanent fixture of your home.

Inground Pool Prices

More to it than what meets the eye

Various types of inground pools have varying price points as well. As well as other pro's and con's. While a fiberglass pool may cost more to purchase and install, a fiberglass pool will save much money in the long run making the price quite attractive. Not to mention the lesser amount of maintenance needed for a fiberglass pool.

 Inground pool prices
can mean the immediate cost, or the cost spread out over some years.
 Buyer Beware!

Before deciding on a purchase price that may seem attractive, consider maintenance, utility, chemical and possible replacement costs which will ad up over time. This is really your true inground pool price.

How will your pool be used? Are there those who will want to dive into the pool, a deeper pool may be best suited. Will the pool be used for exercise and lap swimming? Then a long rectangular pool should be considered. Are there small children needing a part of the pool that is very shallow? then a pool that can be waded into may be the pest choice. Will a spa attached to the pool be a useful feature?

Once you have decided on the type of pool you want and the size along with some of the extras you may want: A spa with a heater, a heater for the pool itself, pool covers, steps etc. you can begin to research and compare the prices of pool companies.

Make sure your price quite includes the entire job plus supplies, in order to avoid nasty surprises. Do not go by price alone. A pool company offering rock bottom prices may end up costing more than a company that is more expensive.

Once you have a few companies in mind, check how long they have been in business, if they are a member of the Better Business Bureau and whether there has been complaints.

Read contracts carefully. Will you be responsible to pay the laborers if the contractor fails to do so? Will you be required to pay the suppliers if the contractor fails to do so?

Getting an inground swimming pool is a major investment that you will enjoy for years to come. It is worthwhile to do enough research in order to not end up with a pool that cost more than you expected, or having to deal with a pool company who doesn't do quality work, or even worse, have failed to pay other parties involved in the transaction, leaving you legally obligated to do so.

There are a lot of things to consider when researching inground pool prices. Don't skimp on your research!
