Swimming Pool
Cost
The cost of a swimming pool depends on a
number of factors. Inground pool
prices are quite a bit higher than above ground pools.
There are basically two categories of cost:
1. Cost of Swimming Pool Installation,
and:
2.Cost of Swimming
Pool Operation,
Maintenance and
Repairs.
The cost of installing a swimming pool
can vary greatly depending upon the type of pool, inground or
above ground, along with the size and materials used. Then
there are additional costs as those for a spa attached to the
pool, decorative tiles, the pool deck and landscaping, to
mention a few.
The most major factor is whether the pool is
inground or above ground. Both have pro's and con's. The
inground pool obviously adding a lot more value to your
property, not to mention beauty and style.
Once the type is decided upon, the size is
the next large determinant regarding your swimming pool cost.
The size should be a careful consideration. Do not go too
small. Better then to wait until the desired size pool can be
purchased.
"Window" shopping on the net is a great way
to get an idea of styles, sizes, and design. Take your time.
Your swimming pool is a forever thing...
Selecting a contractor is another item that
should be done with caution and consideration. Price alone
should not be the deciding factor. Some companies are "cheap"
but some do sub standard work. How long the company has been in
business is important to know, are they a member of the Better
Business Bureau? Will they be doing the work, or are they the
middleman sub-contracting the job to someone ekse?
Sometimes your local government agency
issuing the permit for the pool have knowledge about local pool
companies. Ask for local references, and follow up on them. You
will be spending a lot of money on this contractor. Due
Diligence is definitely required!
Ask for a copy of the contract ahead of
signing in order to be able to read all the fine print.
Next on the list is to figure the cost of
running and maintaining the pool. Here are some items you may
want to think about.
Additional Swimming Pool
Costs
- How much will running the pool pump add to your utility
bill?
- How much water will you need to add to the pool, and to
what cost?
- The cost of adding chemicals.
- The cost of a pool maintenance company or,,,,
- Will you be doing the maintenance yourself? How much
time will it take?
- How much will it cost to use a heater? And if no pool
heater is used, then how much use will you have of the
pool?
- Will you need a cover for the seasons when the pool is
unusable?
- Will you need a child proof fence around the pool?
- Cost for replacing pumps, heaters, leaky lines and
more...
Your needs may differ from these above. But do make a
realistic estimate of what your swimming pool cost will
really be before embarking on what can be a very expensive
purchase... But one that can cause such joy and entertainment
as well!
